When heavy storms and high winds occur, there’s always a chance your power will go out. Perhaps for just a couple of hours or sometimes even days. So this week on Raising the Standard, BOSS owner, Jeff Street talks with WSJM’s Spencer Rivers about the benefits of whole-home permanent generators. If you want your power to automatically turn back on when there’s a power outage, a whole-home generator is a great option. The generator will sense a power outage and flip a transfer switch on and power your house again like the power never even went out.
One of our customers had a generator kick on after their lights merely flickered just once and came right back on, not realizing their power had went out. They looked at their neighbors house to see their lights were all off, and that’s the only indicator they had that there was a power outage!
How Does a Whole-Home Generator Work?
A whole-home generator is a permanent installation that we do entirely in 1 day. We run a gas pipe to your existing natural gas line or your propane line, and it will run off one of those fuels so you never have to worry about fueling it up yourself, especially in the winter time! For those who run on well water, you probably have propane, and you definitely want water to keep flowing and toilets to keep flushing so a whole-home generator is a great idea.
The generator both senses when the power goes out and when it comes back on so it never runs more than it has to. We sell Honeywell Generators, which have smart software that hooks up to your wi-fi so it will send alerts to your phone to let you know that your power is out and your generator has started running.
These Honeywell generators also perform a test cycle once a week for 2-3 minutes, and will send an alert to your generator app, letting you know if it’s running well or if there are any issues.
Wrapping it Up…
A single generator can only run power to so many things, like your refrigerator and freezer to keep your food from spoiling, but a whole-home generator can provide complete power to your whole home when a storm hits and knocks out your power so you don’t have to choose what power-operated items to maintain.
Jeff depends on wi-fi to get a cell signal in his home so when the power goes out, they can’t use their phones. Thankfully, when their power goes out their whole-home generator keeps everything running and they still can use their phone and wi-fi.
