With the colder months rolling in, BOSS Services wants to remind everyone that now is the time to get your furnace inspected and ductwork cleaned. In freezing temperatures, your furnace has to work harder than ever to keep your home warm so it’s always good to be proactive and make sure your equipment is safe and ready for winter.
Additionally, the winter months force homeowners to keep their homes closed up as much as possible, trapping any dust bunnies, mold, or mildew that’s living in ductwork and recirculating it into the air.
Is your ductwork ready for winter? Keep reading to learn more about duct cleaning and determine if now is the time to clean your ducts.
How Often Should You Have Your Ducts Cleaned?
Every home is going to be different, but the average standard for getting your ducts cleaned is once every 5-7 years. There are various factors that determine whether or not you should do it more frequently. If you have pets, you should have your ducts cleaned more often due to pet hair and dander that can accumulate. Another common factor is if you like to keep the windows open during summer, excess dirt and dust from nearby fields can cause buildup. Additionally, if family members have allergies or health conditions, it’s better to have your ducts cleaned more often. The frequency for which you should clean your ducts is all truly all based on each homeowner’s lifestyle.
How Do You Know If It’s Time to Clean Your Ducts?
A simple way to check whether or not you are due for a duct cleaning on your own is by taking a screwdriver and locating your air return vent. It is generally a bigger vent in your home that sucks the air in and later gets recycled. You can tell if it’s the return vent if it does not blow cold air out when the AC is turned on. Once you take that vent off, you’ll be able to see inside and get a better idea on how your ducts are looking. If you don’t feel like tackling that on your own, BOSS Services will send someone your way to take your furnace apart and take a look at it with you!
How Does Our Duct Cleaning System Work?
Here at BOSS Services we utilize a trailer-mounted duct cleaning system that we park in your driveway, we’ve named the BOSS Duct Dominator for good reason. The vacuum, or negative pressure system, doesn’t actually go inside your home. We run hoses through your home that we hook up to your ductwork. The hoses get tapped into your return line and we use a special high pressure system to pull everything outside and into the bags of the vacuum. Our new high negative pressure system leaves nothing behind in your ducts – it’s a deeper clean than your average duct cleaning vacuum other companies may use.
We take extra precautions as to not make a mess in your home by blocking off any vents while performing your cleaning. To finalize the process, we send a mist through your entire duct work to clean and sanitize any germs, bacteria, and viruses. If you’d like to look more in depth into how duct cleaning is performed, BOSS Services offers before and after photos as well as a helpful video of the process you can find here:
