Raising the Standard Podcast Episode 65

We’re now in the month of May, and we are all gearing up for summer.  If only this “spring” weather in West Michigan would get on the same page! So on this week’s episode of Raising the Standard, we’re thinking summer and discussing air conditioner check-ups, and why BOSS Services is the best place to work in the region if you’re a plumber, HVAC expert, or any type of tradesman (hint: we have the best benefits package in the trades!). Listen to the episode above or comb through our summary below!

Spring Air Conditioner Check-Ups: Now is the Time!

Now is the magical time of year where it feels like winter in the morning and spring in the afternoon. So it’s likely most people haven’t been running their air conditioners much yet. Like anything else in life, it’s important to make sure your AC is running properly before you need it. There is nothing worse than an air conditioner breakdown on an 80 degree day when you need it the most.  If you haven’t turned it on yet, you should probably get it turned on to see if it works.

Even if it does turn on and seems to be running well, it’s still a good idea to get a check-up from an HVAC technician before summer so you can be 100% confident it’s ready for the heat. For instance, it was 85 outside last weekend, and we had a customer turn on their AC for the first time this year.  It was a brand new air conditioner we just installed last year. However, it didn’t turn on because a mouse moved in over the winter and ate all the wiring, causing it to malfunction.

So even if you have a newer system, it’s still a good idea to get your AC check-up. Also, this time of year tends to be less busy in the HVAC industry. So it’s easier to get on the schedule than in the midst of summer when HVAC systems are breaking down more frequently due to constant use.

DIY Spring Air Conditioner Checklist

Some things you can do on your own to make sure your air conditioner unit is in good condition is cleaning it up before summer. Brush off any leaves that are surrounding your outdoor condenser unit. Also brush off any debris buildup around and on top of it. Another thing to clean up is dogwood, which tends to fall on AC units this time of year.

You should also pay close attention to your fins on your air conditioner. They are the similar to the radiator in your car. Their purpose is to release the heat that is coming out of your house through the AC lines. The more these fins are bent and damaged, the harder it is for the fins to do their job. So dogwood is a big issue that needs to be washed out of your AC unit. You can easily do this with just a garden hose. You can spray it on a light setting and it will clean all of the debris out without damaging it.  Whatever you do, just don’t pressure wash your condenser unit because you don’t want to bend the fins.

Why We’re the Place to Be for HVAC Experts and Plumbers in West Michigan

Like everyone else, we are looking for quality people and are always hiring because we’re always growing our team year-round. Currently, our strongest need is for more plumbers and HVAC installers. Every company in the trades is busy right now and will just get busier in the summer so there’s no shortage of work, but not every company provides what BOSS Services does for our employees.

The BOSS Benefits Package – Why Ours is the Best in the Industry!

We are creating a work environment at BOSS that is just better than anywhere else in the region, maybe even the state. We already had an amazing healthcare benefits package for our staff, but we recently upgraded it so it’s even better. A lot of BOSS Tribe members that came to work for us did so because of our healthcare package, and we want to provide the best for our employees so we decided to take it to the next level.

Our benefits package even includes pet insurance, so we’re not only talking about taking care of you and your human family, but your pets too. Also, we offer tool and boot allowance, fantastic bonus plans, paid holidays and vacation days off, paid birthdays off, paid training, and more. Another recent addition to our benefits package is we are now matching 401k’s for the first time, which is exciting to be able to help our employees plan for their future.
